The normative social contract, which Rousseau argued in The Social Contract (1762), aims to respond to this sad situation and to remedy the social and moral dysfunctions caused by the development of society. The distinction between history and justification, between the expert situation of humanity and how it should live together, is of the utmost importance to Rousseau. We should not ignore history and ignore the causes of the problems we face, but we must solve them by our ability to decide how we should live. Maybe he never does it right, even if it`s like it did. The theory of hypothetical approval of the governed is that the obligation to obey the government depends on whether the government agrees with it, or whether the people, if they were put in a state of nature without a government, would approve that government. This theory has been rejected by some scholars [who?] who argue that, since the government itself can commit aggression, the formation of a government to protect the people from aggression would resemble the people, if one had a choice of which animals they should be attacked, and that they are „polecats and foxes for a lion“, a trade they would not make. The state of nature is therefore not the same as the state of war as it is, according to Hobbes. It can, however, be put into a state of war, especially in a state of war for property conflicts. While the state of nature is that of freedom, in which men recognize the law of nature and therefore do not harm each other, the state of war between two or more men begins as soon as one man declares war on another by stealing war from him or trying to make him his slave. Since there is no civil power in the state of nature against which people can appeal, and since the law of nature allows them to defend their own lives, they can then kill those who would appeal to them. Since the natural state does not have civilian authority, it is likely that the war will continue after the start of the war. And this is one of the strongest reasons why men must leave the state of nature by coming together to form a civilian government. Quickly in modern times and the English philosopher Thomas Hobbes, who in 1652 described life in a „state of nature“ as „lonely, poor, wicked, brachial and short.“ These are the five best-known and cruelest adjectives that warn humanity against selfishness and intolerance.
The social contract developed in the works of the English john Locke, who asserted his legitimacy in his treaties on government and individual approval in 1672. The work that had most directly influenced Thomas Jefferson and the founding fathers was Jean-Jacques Roussau`s „The Social Contract“. (He also had a great influence on the French Revolution.) By signing the declaration of independence, the founders of the United States pledged to form a new government.
